Chaco Canyon

We spent most of one day at Chaco Culture National Historic Park in New Mexico.  Oh my!  The things that I don't know about our country is incredible!  Chaco was the center of a culture that is known as the Anasazi.  They created awesome pueblos (towns) in the Chaco Canyon area and elsewhere.  13 pueblos have been discovered in the Chaco Canyon area and two of them cover 3 acres!  They began building somewhere around 850 AD and then abandoned the area shortly after 1200 AD.  The largest of the pueblos was 4 stories tall and had over 600 rooms.  Again, our experience was great.  To be able to walk right through this historic site was wonderful.

We also visited the Aztec Ruins in Aztec, New Mexico.  This has nothing to do with the Aztecs!  When European settlers found the ruins, they assumed they were created by Aztecs.  This is a smaller ruins and I did not include any pictures of it.  It was inhabited during the same period of time.

I wish these pictures would really do this area justice, but they do not.
